STORIES ABOUT DIVISION, WAR, PAIN, SUFFERING AND ALL THE OTHER NEGATIVES
My Dear Friends: We live in interesting times! Living out our spiritual and religious journeys in today’s world certainly presents us with interesting challenges. Turn on The News, be it on television, radio, or internet, and all we seem to see and hear are stories about division, war, pain, suffering, and all the other negatives.
Ron Rolheiser summed up this global mess very well when he wrote: “we live in a world of deep divisions. Everywhere we see polarization, people bitterly divided from each other by ideology, politics, economic theory, moral beliefs and theology”. As we hear in today’s readings, these scenarios are not just replicated in communities, but often generated in the human heart when it is turned into a war zone of conflict.
Once again, Jesus, the Divine Physician, wades into our quagmire of pain, conflict and division, providing for us a transforming source to build bridges the of forgiveness and reconciliation where there is conflicting ideologies, division and bitterness. Once again, I shall elaborate on this in Sunday’s homily.
Stay warm in these chilly days!
